SPEAKER PORTAL

All authors identified as presenters received a message with access information to their speaker portal the first week of February. If you have not received this message, contact staff. All presenting authors must complete the assigned tasks via the portal by the published deadline. Some deadlines are as early as March 1. Don’t wait!

 

PRESENTATION TYPES

Plenary Sessions

  • IPSO Program– Presentation is limited to 6 minutes plus 2 minutes for discussion.
  • APSA Program– Presentation is limited to 5 minutes plus 3 minutes for discussion.
  • Unlimited number of slides.

 

Scientific Breakout Sessions

  • APSA Program– Presentation is limited to 5 minutes plus 3 minutes for discussion.
  • Unlimited number of slides.

 

Quick Shots (oral presentation, no posters)

  • IPSO Program– Presentation is limited to 3 minutes plus 2 minutes for discussion.
  • APSA Program– Presentation is limited to 2 minutes plus 1 minute for discussion.
  • We recommend limiting your presentation to 1 title slide, 1 disclosure slide, and 2 additional slides. The moderators will keep you on time out of respect to the next speaker.


Posters

  • IPSO Program only
  • No oral presentations, poster display only.
  • Maximum poster size is 4 feet tall by 4 feet wide (1.2 meters by 1.2 meters).

 

Video Abstracts

  • Videos must include audio narration of the procedure; authors cannot narrate from the podium.
  • Video presentations are limited to 5 minutes with 3 minutes for discussion.

AWARDS

APSA awards several prizes for outstanding presentations. Presentations in the IPSO program will be included for consideration for the Folkman and Quick Shot awards. Visit the awards page to learn more about these and other awards.

 

Quick Shots

Medical Students

Award recipients must be medical students enrolled in medical school at the time of abstract submission.

Surgical Trainees

Award recipients must be trainees currently enrolled in a surgical training program (residency or fellowship).

 

Judah Folkman Memorial Awards

Presented jointly with the Association of Pediatric Surgical Program Directors. Two awards are given, one in basic science and one in clinical. Award recipients must be trainees currently enrolled in a surgical training program (residency or fellowship).

 

Quality, Safety and Value in Surgery Award

This award is given to the manuscript that describes a research study or quality improvement project that best addresses the value proposition by demonstrating an improvement in outcomes while at the same time reducing cost or other measures of resource utilization. The quality of the manuscript and potential impact of the intervention for improving value outside of the author’s own institution will serve as the primary criteria for judging.

 

Innovation Award

The award is given to the best innovation abstract and is scored and selected by the Program and New Technology committees.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Submission is open February 15 – March 15.

Abstracts presented in Plenary and Scientific sessions are eligible to submit manuscripts for publication in the Annual Meeting edition of the Journal of Pediatric Surgery (January 2025). Manuscript submission is optional. *  Presentation of your abstract at the annual meeting is not a guarantee of acceptance for publication. Quick Shots are not eligible for manuscript submission. *

Manuscript submission is required for abstracts identified as candidates for the Quality Award, and in some cases may include Quick Shots. 

Manuscripts must be submitted via the APSA platform.  All eligible authors receive notification and submission instructions by February 15. If you did not receive an email and believe that you should have, contact staff.
