APSA and Veritas Announce
New Executive Director
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that APSA and Veritas announces our new association executive director Thomas F. Tracy, Jr., MD MBA.
After review of many qualified applicants, it was clear that none had the depth nor breadth of experience demonstrated by Tom and he was the unanimous choice of the APSA Board and Veritas. Tom has served our specialty of pediatric surgery in many roles including Governor on the APSA Board of Governors, Chair of the Advisory Council for Pediatric Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, President of the Association of Pediatric Surgery Training Program Directors, Chair of the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery and has served on the Surgery Review Committee for the ACGME.
A native of Albany, New York, Tom was an undergraduate at Colgate, received an MBA from Brandeis, his MD from the New York State Program, Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. He did his surgical training at the Medical College of Virginia and Pediatric Surgery at Columbia. He has been NIH RO1 funded and has over 130 publications to his credit.
Tom has served in numerous leadership roles at St. Louis, Brown and Penn State Universities. He has served as a training program director and surgeon in chief at Brown, as well as Chief Medical Officer at both Brown and Penn State. Most recently Tom was Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Penn State Health and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. His leadership roles, both local national, give him deep connections to the field of surgery making Tom well positioned to help APSA in both an advisory and strategic role to move forward with our own strategic plan and pillars.
Tom has served extremely well as APSA’s chief transition officer, working closely with myself as President and the Board of Governors to help ensure a smooth transition to our new management company, Veritas. Tom’s deep respect for APSA, the Presidency and the Board will be of great benefit as we look toward the future.
Tom has become part of the Veritas team and will be specifically assigned to APSA as our Executive Director. Please join me in welcoming Tom and congratulating him on his new position.
A Message from Thomas F. Tracy, Jr., MD MBA
